@yakmacker@society.kalli.st Race is the Latin translation of the Greek ethnos. An ethnos or ethnicity is just a group of people united by blood, custom, history, etc. The first thing you listed is just phenotype. The latter is closer to race.

Race is a fluid category. You can break it down at different levels. Most people in Neopagan circles designate it with groupings that roughly correlate to coherent language families, which works pretty well, but it's all tentative. Technically, if your family has been in one town for 500 years, you could say someone from the next town over who's been there just as long is a different race from you. That wouldn't be useful but it's not technically an invalid paradigm.

The White/Black/Asian phenotypic description is a very low resolution way of thinking about it that was common in American law for a time but no one who's examined different lineages of peoples on a serious level has considered it that way.

I don't even get why another race would *want* to co-opt the Gaelic tradition. There's not much of it left, it has to be supplemented with Catholic era syncretism and Greco-Indian motifs.

Oh, thank Bridget you told me. I'd hate it if my exclusive racial inheritance might have some kind of exclusive racial component.
